Devos and Nuytinck aiming for doubles title

Robin Devos (22) starts his tournament on Thursday in De Haan. The Belgian hopes to show something on home soil and together with Cedric Nuytinck he wants to win the doubles title. “We want to qualify for the World Tour Grand Finals”, explains Devos, who is the second seed in doubles.

A league match at Morliny Ostrada, the Polish club of Robin, was the reason why he couldn’t participate in De Haan. With fresh courage and a radiant form the Belgian number two appears at the table for this edition. “The preparation went very well”, said Devos. "I have trained hard throughout the summer and already played a few matches. The form is certainly good and I hope to be able to show something before my own crowd. My ambitions in doubles are pretty high. I and Cédric are aiming to qualify for the World Tour Grand Finals in December. About the only game is difficult for me to say something. It depends on the draw and how I play. For the moment I am not at my top level yet, but the intention is to peak at this tournament.”

Encouragement of Laurens

From a distance Robin saw the Paralympic triumph of his younger brother Laurens. "I got phone calls from various media about the title of my brother. I don't mind being out of the spotlights now. It is well deserved and he worked hard for it.”

Wednesday Laurens Devos (16) lands together with Florian Van Acker (19) on Belgian soil. Then the elder brother can expect encouragements of him on the Belgium Open. "Laurens had promised that he was going to come and view all my matches, but I think he has forgotten that he should go to school (laughing)”, said Devos, who acted as a coach for some Flemish players on his first days in De Haan.

For Cedric Nuytinck (23) the tournament also starts on Thursday. On Monday Nuytinck was still active with his French club Roanne in the Pro A. Against fellow Villeneuve-Sur-Lot Cedric Nuytinck and co. won 3-1. About his form he doesn’t have to complain, because on Monday he defeated the Frenchman Antoine Hachard. The double competition (Pre. Rounds) started today in De Haan.
